Munstead Wood planting

Here Gertrude Jekyll cleverly combined Lyme Grass (Leymus arenarius)
with it's bluish-grey leaves
and Lavender-Cotton (Santolina) into a wonderful combination.
Santolina is a Mediterranean group of small or medium-sized shrubs that make neat, rounded bushes, with finely divided foliage. They enjoy warm sunny positions, and good drainage is essential. In colder areas, it will need protection in winter.

I have Lavender Cotton. Mine is the variety that puts out little yellow flowers and smells wonderful. This year, I planted it in a planter between my two garage doors. Every time I walk by...I give it a brush with my hand.

When I first looked at this photo, I thought it was a frosty scene. It would be a cooling arrangement for certain.

Good point. It seems to be near some trees and would add a subtle shade to a darkish corner.
